# Is coding a good fit for how you think?

Many coding bootcamps ask people to take an aptitude test before they start. This one is free, unofficial and just for you. It checks the kinds of thinking programming leans on every day, and it doesn't ask you to know any code.

## How it works

- **Part 1: How you like to work.** 12 quick statements about how you approach problems. There are no right answers. About 3 minutes.
- **Part 2: Reasoning.** 35 puzzles in seven areas: spotting patterns, logical reasoning, step-by-step thinking, learning new rules, attention to detail, troubleshooting and working with numbers. You get 40 minutes, or you can take it untimed.
- **Your results show straight away,** area by area, with what each one means for coding and what to practice next.

## What you need

About 45 quiet minutes, and pencil and paper if you like (programmers use scratch paper too). You won't need a calculator, and you don't need an account.

**Registration is free.** Register to get your results as a PDF report by email and keep them in your account.

Unofficial and just for fun: not a validated, psychological or IQ test, and not a prediction of whether you'll succeed in a bootcamp or a career. Use your results however you see fit. [How to read your results](https://www.ask-codey.com/aptitude-test/how-to-read)
