# Compositing

Combining painted layers into the final picture.

## What is **compositing**?

**Compositing** is combining painted layers into the final picture. Changes to `transform` and `opacity` can skip layout and paint, which is why they animate smoothly.

```css
.drawer { transition: transform 0.3s; }   /* smooth: only compositing changes */
```
