# Custom property

A named, reusable value like --brand-color, read with var().

## What is a **custom property** in CSS?

A **custom property** (a CSS variable) is a value you name once, starting with `--`, and reuse anywhere with `var()`. Change it in one place and everything using it updates.

:root { --brand-color: #0a7c86; }
.button { background: var(--brand-color); }
.link { color: var(--brand-color); }
